Watch LWVLC's "Time to Vote: What to Know, What to Trust, and What to Question"
What two proposals have made it to the 2026 Michigan ballot? How do I identify misinformation and disinformation? What should I know about voting for the Michigan Supeme Court?
LWVLC's October 2026 forum, “Time to Vote: What to Know, What to Trust, and What to Question,” provides voters with practical, nonpartisan information to navigate the ballot and the internet. The October 7, 2026 forum addresses the two ballot proposals; one for a Consitutional Congress and the other to address money in politics. It then dives into misinformation with both tips and a quiz to challenge our knowledge.
Held at the Leelanau County Government Center, the forum featured speakers including LWVLC President Janet Welch and LWVLC Advocacy Committee Co-chairs Jane Gale and Marian Kromkowski.
The forum explains the two statewide ballot proposals currently headed for the November ballot: the constitutionally required question asking whether Michigan should convene a constitutional convention in 2027 and the Michiganders for Money Out of Politics initiative, which concerns campaign contributions and political communications.
The program also addresses the growing challenge of disinformation—misleading or false information that can make it difficult for voters to know what to believe. Viewers will learn practical ways to evaluate election information, recognize red flags, and identify reliable, reputable sources before sharing or acting on what they see online or hear from others.
“Our goal is to give people the tools to ask good questions, find trustworthy information, and make their own informed decisions.” -Janet Welch, LWVLC President
